Pet Friendly Motorhome Hire in Scotland — Dog-Friendly Holidays in Dumfries and Galloway

Both our 2023 Swift Edge motorhomes are fully pet friendly. No extra cleaning fee for well-behaved dogs, and we include dog bowls and a blanket with every booking. Dumfries and Galloway is one of the best regions in Britain for a motorhome trip with your dog — vast forests, empty beaches, and very few "no dogs" rules to worry about.

What we include for dogs

• Food and water bowls
• A blanket for the passenger footwell (they tend to nest there)
• Poop-bag holder for the side door
• We don't charge extra per dog — bring one or bring three

Just a quick ask: please keep dogs off the cab seats and don't let them sleep on the fixed beds. A cover or their own bed on the floor works fine.

The best dog-friendly beaches in D&G

• Sandyhills Bay — huge flat sandy beach, dogs off-lead year-round on most of it, good motorhome parking nearby.
• Rockcliffe — sheltered cove, rockpools, a proper "run them ragged" beach for a Labrador.
• Brighouse Bay — quieter, cliff walks, part of the holiday park has good facilities.
• Mossyard — pet-friendly campsite right on the beach; great base for a few days.
• Killantringan Bay — remote, dramatic, close to Portpatrick. Often completely empty.

Dog-friendly forests and walks

• Galloway Forest Park — 300 square miles, endless forest tracks, all dog-friendly on-lead around wildlife/livestock.
• Mabie Forest — family-friendly trails close to Dumfries, toilets and café at the visitor centre.
• Dalbeattie Forest — mountain-bike park with separate dog-walking trails.
• Kirroughtree — visitor centre with water bowls and tie-up points outside.

Practical tips for touring with a dog

• Sheep country. D&G is farmed — keep dogs on-lead anywhere near livestock. Farmers here are legally allowed to shoot dogs worrying sheep. Don't risk it.
• Ticks. Check dogs after forest walks April through October — ticks are common and can carry Lyme.
• Midges. The Solway Coast is largely midge-free but the forest isn't. Bring a spray that's dog-safe.
• Water safety. Some Solway bays have fast-moving tides and strong currents. Check before letting dogs swim off-lead.
• Campsite rules vary. Most D&G sites welcome dogs; a few restrict to one per pitch. Always ring ahead if bringing 2+.
