Day 2 - Leave Stirling heading North through Perth and into the Scottish Highlands. Travel up the A9 through the Dalwhinnie pass stopping to enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery - and for all the passengers a tour and taster session at Dalwhinnie Malt Whisky distillery before stopping for the night at Glenmore Lodge Campsite, Aviemore.
Day 3 - spend the day exploring the mountain area which makes up the Cairngorm National Park. Ride the funicular railway to the summit of Cairngorm - one of Scotlands highest peaks and a winter mecca for skiers and snowboarders - to enjoy an unsurpassed view and maybe the opportunity to see and feed one of the herd of reindeer who live on the high plains.
Day 4/5 - Heading North, back through Aviemore and continuing up the A9 to Inverness. Use Inverness as a base to visit the wild moorland at Culloden, home to one of the most famous battles in Scottish history; take a boat trip from the Black Isle to watch porpoises, whales and seabirds as well as enjoying the rugged coastal secenery.
Day 6 - Leaving Inverness and driving West through the Great Glen provides the opportunity to do a spot of "Nessie" watching (the fabled Loch Ness Monster) as you follow the banks of Loch Ness for its 24 miles. Arrive at the western end of the Crinan Canal in Fort William.
Day 7 - Climb Ben Nevis - the highest mountain in Scotland - or for those looking for an easier option take the cable car up the nearby Aonach Mor. Both options afford you a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains and across the sea to the Inner Hebrides.
Day 8 - Leaving Fort Willian and head to Mallaig in time to catch the ferry to the Isle of Skye. Spend the day driving north through the spectacular mountain and coastal scenery of the island.
Day 9/10 - Leave the Isle of Skye crossing the Skye Bridge at Kyleakin and then head further North into the extreme remoteness of the North West Highlands. Explore the beaches and mountains and rural quietness that this unique and beautiful area of the country offers before arriving at John O'Groats- the most Northerly point in the United Kingdom.
Day 11 - Enjoy the rugged and inhospitable coastline with its soaring cliffs, miles of empty golden beaches and crashing surf. For the more adventurous Wick and Thurso offer some of the best surfing breaks in the world and is one of the annual venues on the World Professional Surfing Tour.
Day 12 - Leave Wick and head South, passing back through Inverness to stop for the night in Aberdeen.
Day 13 - Depart Aberdeen and follow the North Sea coast South through the pretty fishing communities of Arbroath, Montrose and Carnoustie before stopping for the night in Dundee - home to the restored ship Discovery.
